My collection of FocusWriter themes gathered from various places over the years. Overall, the exclusion of a dictionary keeps me from recommending Focuswriter. You can download the latest version of OmmWriter for both Mac OSX and Windows here. I also wish that FW came with a little documentation to explain things like sessions and the scene list. I like the daily goal word counter, I like the writing timer, though I wish the latter had a little more polish, like hot keys to start it and stop it. They do help to set a mood, and keep things fresh. Speaking of themes I like them, but they're something of a distraction, which is what FW is supposed to be minimizing. Featuring only a piece of paper on a background, FocusWriter hides all of the unnecessary interface controls that could distract writers from. This handy tool was designed to provide writers with a distraction-free environment to allow them to focus on their writing. I keep having to navigate to the same folders again and again, because FW doesn't allow me to customize my save or theme locations. FocusWriter is a word processor developed by Gott Code. I figured it out, but less savvy users may be stumped. The developer's website offers a link to where to get a dictionary, but not how to install it. A dictionary is not included with FW (v1.4.1 at least) so there's no spell check. I really like portable software, but that fact is going to throw off less geeky users. Here are a few things to keep in mind about Focuswriter: First, Focuswriter has no installer. Standalone software, no installation required. Other features include as-you-type spell checking, tabs to switch between multiple documents, auto-saving and session support. FocusWriter also includes productivity features that allow you to set daily goals and view live statistics about your progress (word count, page count etc.). The toolbar, which provides access to common word processing features, will hide out of the way while you are writing and only appear when you move your mouse to the edge of the screen, leaving you with nothing but your text to focus on. You can create multiple, completely personalized work environments by using background images, colors and font types of your choice, thereby creating an ambiance to inspire your imagination.
